Embarking on a scenic journey from San Francisco to Monterey and Carmel along California’s Highway 1 offers travelers a blend of urban landmarks, coastal vistas, and charming towns. Day 1: Exploring San Francisco’s 49-Mile Scenic Drive

This video was shot when I visited San Francisco. Starting with morning sunrise at Embarcadero with a view of the San Francisco – Oakland Bay Bridge. Then, a flight to Alcatraz from Pier 39. Next to Lombard Street. Finally flying above the beautiful view of the Palace of Fine Arts Theater to the Golden Gate Bridge. Coincidentally, when I watched the new Ant-Man and the Wasp. The scene when the Ant man become a giant was shot where I shot in this video of the Pier 39. You can see it around 2:20 minute mark. I used Mavic Pro Platinum for this shot. Around 2:40 mark you will see the seagulls. One of the seagulls started chasing my drone. I was afraid that it was going to attack it. But, I did not a really close-up of the birds flying!

I embarked on this scenic drive in a convertible, starting at The Embarcadero pier. The morning light illuminated the Bay Bridge beautifully, making it a perfect spot for photos.

Day 2: Journey to Monterey via Highway 1

Depart San Francisco, heading south on Highway 1 (the Pacific Coast Highway), a route celebrated for its stunning coastal scenery. Notable stops along the way:​

• Pigeon Point Lighthouse: Visit one of the tallest lighthouses in the U.S., offering dramatic ocean vistas.​
• Santa Cruz: Take a break to explore the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk or enjoy a meal in this vibrant beach town.​
• Natural Bridges State Beach: Witness the unique rock formations and, during the right season, migrating monarch butterflies.​

The drive to Monterey typically takes about 2.5 to 3 hours without stops, but allocating extra time for these attractions is recommended.​

During my journey, I made a stop at Santa Cruz, enjoying the lively atmosphere of the boardwalk and indulging in some local seafood.​

Day 3: Discovering Monterey and the 17-Mile Drive

Monterey offers a rich blend of history and natural beauty. Must-visit sites include:​

• Monterey Bay Aquarium: Renowned for its interactive exhibits and commitment to marine conservation.​
• Cannery Row: Stroll through this historic waterfront district, once the heart of the sardine-packing industry and now home to shops and restaurants.

In the afternoon, embark on the 17-Mile Drive, a scenic loop through Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove. Highlights include:​

• The Lone Cypress: An iconic tree perched on a granite hillside, symbolizing resilience and beauty.​
• Pebble Beach Golf Links: Even non-golfers can appreciate the stunning coastal views of this world-famous course.​
• Bird Rock: Observe seals, sea lions, and various bird species in their natural habitat.​

A fee of $12 per vehicle is required to access the 17-Mile Drive, but it’s refundable with a qualifying purchase within Pebble Beach resorts.

Driving the 17-Mile Drive was a highlight of my trip. The coastal views were breathtaking, and spotting wildlife at Bird Rock was an unforgettable experience.​
